Orji Uzor Kanu douses tension over Nnamdi Kanu

… Claims to London through Malaysia

While the British Government is taking the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigerian Army  to task to clarify the whereabouts of  Ndubuisi Kanu,  since the recent military invasion of his home, former governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu has alleged that the much-sought-after Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader is safe in London.  Sunday Punch quoted the former governor to have told them so in an interview, a fact that UnionMail has made spirited efforts to confirm directly from the former governor without success.

According to the report, Kalu made it clear, however, that he did not know the whereabout of  Kanu’s parents who have also been reportedly missing since the military invasion.

He was quoted to have said these: “Kanu was not taken away by the military. Kanu went to Malaysia from where he travelled to the United Kingdom. Nnamdi Kanu is in London right now as we speakHe was not arrested by anybody. He left the country on his own.
One of his relations has spoken to me and explained everything because I wanted to see him and talk to him wherever he was and see how I could meet some Federal Government officials on his issue.
“I also wanted to see ways of talking to the President about him, and find common ground but his family told me that he has left the country, unless they are lying to me.
“I believe, whether he had left the country or not, he is not with the military because I asked the Commander of the 14 Brigade, Brigadier General A.K Ibrahim, who is a very fine and good soldier, well educated and dedicated, and he told me that they don’t know his whereabouts and I am sure, the Department of State Services have the same information.
“I also visited the Commissioner of Police and he said he didn’t know his whereabouts and that they are also looking for him.”

The former governor was further quoted to have said he is unhappy that  Kanu proved stubborn and did not take advice.
UnionMail gathered from independent sources that the former governor’s story may not be correct since he did not claim to have obtained the information on Kanu’s alleged whereabout from an identifiable source ready and willing to confirm the story. The story is being said to be an attempt to douse tension and calm the tempers of  IPOB members who may be planning to cause problems over Kanu’s unclarified fate.

It was also gathered that there is a growing feeling in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) circles that the Chief Orji Uzor Kalu story in a ploy to pitch the Federal Government and the Military against Senator Abaribe who took Kanu on bail at the Federal High Court. A PDP chief who spoke to UnionMail in Owerri said his suspicion is that the whole story is to put Senator Abaribe in the corner, adding that the former Kanu will face the challenge soon to supply credible information on Kanu’s whereabout.
